A Bit About Me

For the first twenty years of my career, I didn't really do much consultancy on how to build or grow a business, I was too busy building one.

In 2003, I co-founded Exa Networks. Over two decades, I served as Managing & Commercial Director and led all commercial operations, scaling the business from a pure start-up into the second-largest provider of ISP and safeguarding services in the UK. We didn’t achieve that scale through endless rounds of venture capital; we did it through customer and channel acquisitions, proper marketing, a relentless focus on customer service that delivered a 95% contract retention rate , and by developing a channel partner programme that ultimately generated 85% of our revenue.

By the time I exited, our recurring revenue was approaching eight figures and our SaaS platform, was supporting over 2 million daily users in the Public and Private sectors.

I know what it takes to build a company from the ground up, but I also know how to drive inorganic, corporate scale too.

As Channel Acquisition Director at Talk Straight Group, I stepped in to redevelop channel acquisition and create a strategic higher tier channel partner program. Within less than two years, I designed and executed a strategy that delivered major new contracts and successfully onboarded eight of the largest strategic partners in the company’s history, with thousands of customers to onboard over the coming years and keep the team very busy.

My commercial perspective, however, extends far beyond the boardroom and sales desks of tech companies

As the immediate past President of the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, and now board member, I represent over 6,500 businesses for West & North Yorkshire at a national level. Through this role, we have led international trade missions the US, China & The Middle East, that generated tens of millions in new sales pipeline and collaborated with local and central government to drive regional digital skills and investment to the region and the nation.

Simultaneously, I have stayed deeply hands-on with modern digital growth channels. I co-founded, with my wife, Suite Natured, a YouTube and digital media brand that has scaled from zero to a Top 150 Global Ranking in its YouTube niche (cruises). It proved that the strategies used to grow a traditional business could grown an online one and allow us to work with multi-billion-dollar brands and build a top 5% global podcast as well as a YouTube Channel.

I’ve also acted as EC Ambassador and Coach (Entrepreneurs Circle) for both Leeds & Bradford, helping coach and mentor SMEs of all sizes in the region for over three years; and Board member at several major public sector institutions, and Director and Deputy Chair of Bradford Breakthrough.

I am an operator at heart. I have spent 25 years in IT & Commercial leadership across TMT, SaaS, and Digital Solutions but my experience goes across all business communities.
